Make sure you are vote ready. Check your voter registration status at least four (4) times a year; make sure that it reads “Active”. When your voter registration status is Active, that means that you are “vote ready” for any Virginia election.
Use our handy tool to check your voter registration status in any state. If you have a DMV issued ID (Driver’s License of State ID), you can register to vote online. You must be a citizen, Virginia resident, 18 years old by election day and not currently convicted of a felony.
In Virginia you are eligible to have your voting rights restored upon release from prison. The Secretary of the Commonwealth maintains a list of people who have had their rights restored; if you are not already on that list, you can request restoration from the same page
